Lovely Frankenstein's 31 Days of Halloween: Just in Time....Beetlejuice the Cartoon Series!

Someone somewhere had to have loved the Beetlejuice cartoon as much as I did when I was a kid.  At the time, I didn't even know ti had been a movie first.  No, all I knew was the cartoon:

 

I always loved Lydia's spiderweb poncho, at the time, I really thought she had some serious style.  Who am I kidding...I still do! 

So here's the thing...if everything has gone according to John's plans, I should be getting the Halloween Spooktacular, and Season 1 DVDs today in the mail.  Hopefully when I get home, I'll be chowing down on some dinner and watching me some Beetlejuice!

These would make a fun project to do with your kids.  It uses all non-toxic ingredients (even if your kid gets a hold of the Alka-Seltzer and fizzes at the mouth like a tiny Cujo) and most of them anyway are probably in your pantry.

WIP Wednesday: Tula Pink's 100 Modern Quilt Blocks

Well, after months of collecting and stalling, and after a stressful week at a new job, I decided to finally get a start on my Tula Pink project - 100 Modern Quilt Blocks.

I was inspired by a (non Tula Pink) quilt on Pinterest that was done up in red, coral, teal, navy, turquoise and white and I LOVED it.  So that is the color theme for my quilt. 

 I have one block to go on the crosses/pluses section, then I'll be on to the squares.  Some are high contrast, some aren't, none of them are trimmed or anything...I haven't chosen a sashing or anything yet, either

 

This is yet another one of those that I'll pick up and put down a lot, and that I am no rush whatsoever to finish...just one I'll work on when I need some decompression time.

Lovely Frankenstein's 31 Days of Halloween: Interlude

Well, this weekend you may have noticed a sudden stop to the posts...it was the perfect storm.  Normally I schedule the posts a week or two in advance, look for more stuff, and schedule another week.  I had it as far out as the18th.  This weekend we spent it in the hospital with John's family.  All is as well as it can be, but I did fall behind on the posts.  They will resume tomorrow!

Remember those little plastic perler beads from the craft store that you (carefully) ironed into little images?  Apparently those are still a thing.  I didn't know.  But they are, and I remember loving those things as a kid, and people are making some pretty cool stuff with them (Nutella anyone?.  But for now, there are some cute Halloween ones that you could make with your kids...or for yourself!

If you wants to create some spooky apothecary atmosphere in your Halloween home, or for a party, or just because, these DIY poison bottles would do the trick!

I like the "Venomous" bottle's shape. I'm sure it's a little vase, but you could glue in a little cork piece, and how neat would that be?!

I don't really use mug rugs (I don't do the coffee or tea thing...maybe hot chocolate though!) but these would be perfect seasonal coasters!  They're pretty easy and you could use some of those rarely-used stitches on your machine in some snazzy variegated thread...or metallic...hmm...

If the shoe fits, then stuff that thing with treats.  This treat bag is way cute and would be awesome to make for the kids (or grown ass kids) in your life.

If you're the extra motivated kind (I'm not) these would be adorable as party favors filled with candy.  If you're the less motivated kind (like me) these would be awesome for place settings, or a silverware holder as Sharon suggests.  Or a Halloween doggie stocking!  I know two little scary dogs that may need these.

I love festive dishtowels.  My kitchen is pretty bland, and very small, so a kicky dishtowel always helps spruce it up a bit, and what's not to like about a dishtowel that's kicky, literally?

Well, I mean, it has feet.  Cute little witch feet.  You could make one to coordinate with whatever you have going on in your kitchen, or whip a couple out for friends - there's nothing really heavy duty to do here.

Everyone knows that candy is full of calories, but these candies are full of...fiber... (I COULD NOT RESIST).

But really, these crocheted candy corns are so cute.  I think it would look neat to have a little bowl filled with a handful of these just for fun.  I can't crochet, but I know a few folks who do, and who would totally make these for their kids or dogs or me or whatever...how is it that I somehow always end up at the kids table with the dogs?  Never grow up, never surrender :-)

This is a cute, fairly simple quilt from Riley Blake.  The only time consuming parts would be the applique, which would be easily omitted.  You don't have to use their line, of course, but this would make a really adorable throw for the living room or for a kid's room.

WIP Wednesday: Sneaky Stars AAAAAAAAND Lovely Frankenstein's 31 Days of Halloween is back!

This is going to be a weird little post.  Christmas and Halloween in one post, dogs and cats living together...mass hysteria!

 Well that's what I heard.

So first of all, my WIP Wednesday duties.  Linking up with Freshly pieced, as always...see the side bar for a link to the Freshly Pieced blog. 

Sometimes, I get bored, and when I get bored...ish happens. In this case, a 25th and Pine layer cake got the star treatment so to speak.

 

I was inspired by this pattern, but I wanted to used it as a block, not as the quilt itself, and I wanted to use as much of the layer cake as possible.  

So I grabbed my crayons and got to work....I could get 5 star blocks from the layer cake, which meant I needed to figure some spacer blocks. I thought it would look pretty neat to have some subtle stars in between. 

Here's what I have so far....all the spacer blocks are done...

 So there's that.  I'll finish it in time for Christmas this year...MAYBE.

Now. Today is October 1.  That means that Lovely Frankenstein's 31 Days of Halloween is back!  If you're not familiar with that, then here's the deal:  Every day in October I post a quick and simple Halloween themed quilting/sewing project, craft, party idea, interior/exterior decoration, food or cocktail.  It's fun for me, because hey, obviously the chick with the monster themed blog LOVES the crap out of Halloween, but I hope it comes in handy for someone else out there!

As a side note, because this comes up every year...I try to give credit where credit is due on all of the projects I post.  Someone designed it, and they deserve credit for their work!  I will post the designer's name, the name of their blog and a link to the page where I found the tutorial/pattern etc.  That being said, while I do test the links before I post, I don't go back to past posts and continue to check the links - I just don't have the time or manpower for that sort of upkeep.  If a link from years past doesn't work, the name of the project, the designer and the blog names are all there and you may be able to locate it another way.
